How to Prepare for Your Pilates Class

healthy lifestyle 2 min read

We all have those days where we are so busy and rushed that we consider ourselves lucky that we showed up to Pilates class just 5 minutes late.

However, your normal should give you enough time to properly prepare for your Pilates class so that you can get the most out of it.

How do you prepare for a Pilates class, you ask?

Let’s get into it.

1. Hydrating

The first thing you’ll want to do, regardless of whether your class is at 6 a.m. or 6 p.m. is hydrate. Showing up to Pilates class thirsty is going to make it difficult to get through the class and be able to give it your all.

So, make sure to drink plenty of water the night before (if your class is in the morning), or throughout the day (if your class is in the evening).

2. Eating

Similar to hydration, you will struggle to get your bang for your buck in Pilates if you don’t have the nutrients to do your workout.

However, you need to time your eating right -- do not fill up right before class starts. Rather, eat something with protein 1-2 hours before. And if your class is first thing in the morning before you’ve worked up an appetite, have a banana or a small snack before heading into class.

After class is where proper nutrition really comes into play -- be sure to refuel as soon as you can once you finish class. This helps your muscles to get the maximum results, and helps them to recover from your workout. Additionally, it helps keep your energy level at that higher post-workout place.

3. Stretching

Yes, we recommend stretching both before and after Pilates class.

By warming up your muscles via stretching before class, you are able to prep your body for the tough workout ahead. Also, stretching keeps you from overextending your muscles and helps get you more mentally “in the zone” for class.

4. Sleep

No matter what you’re doing in your daily life -- whether it’s working out or working, you need sleep to properly function.

So don’t expect to do particularly well in your Pilates class if you haven’t gotten enough sleep. This class requires a solid mind-body connection, as well as physical energy, and those are two things you can’t get without sleep.

So, one of the best ways to prepare for your Pilates class is by getting enough sleep the night before.

The Takeaway

While sometimes it’s easier to just show up to your Pilates class and dedicate that amount of time to your workout, in order to get the best results, you need to find some time to properly prepare by hydrating, eating, stretching, and sleeping.

We promise you will notice a huge difference?
