You will likely be starving after working out, but give it 30-45 minutes to put something in your body to refuel.

Stock up on the protein

Protein is essential in your muscle recovery so you want to include this in the meal that you consume 30-45 minutes after your workout.

Yes, we give you permission to nap. By taking a (short) nap after a workout, your body goes into rest and recovery mode without having anything else to distract it.

Drink green tea

Green tea comes complete with antioxidants that help lower muscle damage you may have caused during your workout.

Take a cold bath -- ice one if you can!

Icing your muscles when they are sore helps to lower your recovery time as well as reduce any swelling you may have. The refreshing aspect of this is another great benefit.

Consume turmeric

KUNYIT/TURMERIC/CURCUMA LONGA | When my mother used to ask me what I wanted to eat for my birthday, the answer was always nasi kuning. She knew the answer, but it was our birthday ritual. 40 years later, nasi kuning is still one of my all time favourites. Nasi kuning is an Indonesian coconut rice dish flavoured and coloured yellow with kunyit. It is served during special occasions across the Indonesian archipelago.

Whether it’s in a drink or in your food, turmeric is a great thing to have after a workout. This anti-inflammatory can help to speed up muscle recovery.

Keep moving

Keep the blood moving through the muscles you exhausted and try to do some walking throughout the rest of the day.

The Takeaway

Recovering from your workouts is just as important as getting to your workouts in the first place. By doing the above things, you should feel much better post-workout and ready to take on the next one with full force.
